The Bizness: Rumors And Randoms

This was the big news today, that the Sens may be trying to get the Oilers number 1 pick according to the Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch. I have to say I am pretty surprised that we would be willing to pay such a steep price to move up. I had heard possibly moving up to number 3 or 4 if the player we wanted was still around, but up to #1 is fairly shocking to me. In typical Senators fashion, they refuse to pay their cards close to their chest and let everyone know about their plans.

Call me crazy, but I think the Senators make a huge move and keep their #6 and move up to at least #3 or #4 and draft 2 elite forwards in this years draft. That's just something I'm predicting, nothing concrete whatsoever. Look for a roster player to be involved in a trade to move up.

This is the latest crazy rumor from resident hockey world joke Eklund, who thinks we may be after Drew Doughty and also trying to trade Spezza. It seems every offseason the trade Spezza rumors come back doesn't it? This doesn't make any kind of sense since we're already heavy on defenceman  and need forward, though of course Doughty would be a huge upgrade over anyone we have. I'd much rather focus on getting Wayne Simmonds out of LA if we are indeed talking to them. He's just the kind of player we need.

Yes that is former Sen Zdeno Chara and Chris Kelly (back left in black) celebrating their Stanley Cup Championship at Foxwood's Casino with a Midas Bottle of Ace of Spades champagne that is 30 litres, yes 30. That is equivalent to 40 regular 750ml bottles and somehow doesn't look nearly that big in Chara's massive hands. It is extremely rare and will run you 100k. Yes 100 grand. Must be nice to be on top of the world and rich.

Also hear what player personnel head Pierre Dorion has to say about Friday's draft. It should be a busy one for the organization.

This is from last week and I posted it on Twitter, but I figured it deserved more attention. Simply hilarious!

-Despite rampant rumors, started by Cameron himself, still no official hire for Melnyk's main man. Wayne Scanlan had a really good piece on the weird tale of hiring an assistant coach.

-And finally, after the Leafs were named the 3rd worst franchise in North American sports a few days ago, the city of Toronto has now been named the worst sports city by ESPN. Awesome!

So that's it for today but it should be a very busy week to come.

Thoughts?
