Wick Extinguished

It appears Roman Wick's North American experiment is over after just one season, as the B-Sens player will head back to Switzerland after winning the Calder Cup this season in his lone year away from home. Wick, who was Ottawa's 5th round pick, 156th overall, all the way back in 2004, had 42 points in 70 games in Bingo, but didn't appear to be very high priority prospect for the organization anymore. He was also an RFA that had yet to reach a deal, which I'm sure played a role in his decision.

Wick came into training camp last year with quite a bit of potenial and fan attention, but really failed to deliver, and has dropped considerably on the prospect depth chart on a team desperate for scoring. He did manage to play 7 games in Ottawa last year, failing to register a single point. I imagine he didn't have that much hope to make the team next year, which made returning to his home country that much more attractive.

Wick will likely be remembered as a blip in Sens history, someone who arrived with great promise, but ultimately didn't deliver much.

Thoughts on Wick leaving?

UPDATE: I've been told the organization did indeed reach out to Wick on a new deal but his heart was set on returning home to Switzerland.

UPDATE #2 at 5pm July 8th: It is now official, Wick has signed a 3 year deal in Switzerland.
