"Trying to trade for Gonzalez is the Nationals' top priority, says MLB.com's Bill Ladson. According to Ladson, Brad Peacock and Derek Norris are two of the players the Athletics are looking at in a possible four-for-one deal. Nothing is imminent yet, as the Blue Jays and Red Sox are also "heavily in the mix (MLBTradeRumors)."
It has long been rumored that the Nationals are in the lead in trading for Gio, but I really hope it turns out the Red Sox make some kind of push for him. You just can feel too good going into next season with the team we have. I don't see the Red Sox going out and spending the money for even a guy like Edwin Jackson, so this is really the best I am hoping for.
If the Red Sox got Gio Gonzalez their rotation could be...
Lester
Beckett
Buchholz
Gonzalez
Bard/Aceves
I don't like any scenario where Bard AND Aceves are in the rotation, so right now this is the best I can hope for. WIth Bard and/or Aceves back in the pen it strengthens that unit as well (though I think they'd still need to do more work). Still, my best guess right now is that Gio is heading to the Nationals.
