Actually word from WEEI is that the Red Sox aren't close to any signings or trades. That the most likely scenario is that Red Sox will wait until January to see what players are left, and will take low money and/or short term contracts. They have no interest in going over the luxury tax, so this all makes sense.
The only BIG true upgrade I could see the Red Sox doing is trading for Gio Gonzalez. That would remove the need for another BIG bullpen upgrade, since they can send Bard and/or Aceves back to the pen, while also rounding out the rotation.
