ABC's "The River" Worth Getting Excited About?

Most of the shows I watch now are on either HBO or Showtime (Dexter, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, ect). Really the only show I watch that is long then a half hour with commercials is Walking Dead (which I of course watch on DVR). Once Lost ended there has really been shit on especially when it comes to the major networks (ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS), but I have to admit there is a show that has caught my attention.

The show is called "The River" and it's only ABC starting Feb 7th. Here is the synopsis from wiki...

"Famed explorer Dr. Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood) went looking for magic deep in the uncharted Amazon and never returned. The shocking truth about his disappearance is out there, somewhere, just waiting to be discovered. To the millions of kids who grew up watching his nature show, Dr. Cole was a hero. To his own son, Lincoln (Joe Anderson), he was more of an enigma. Now, six months after he vanished, Lincoln is finally ready to bury the past when Dr. Cole's emergency beacon suddenly goes off. At the urging of his mother, Tess (Leslie Hope), Lincoln reluctantly joins her on a search for his father. To fund the rescue, they agree to let Dr. Cole's cagey ex-producer, Clark (Paul Blackthorne), film the mission documentary-style. The mixed crew of old friends and new acquaintances includes the sexy and resourceful Lena (Eloise Mumford), loyal mechanic Emilio (Daniel Zacapa) and lethal bodyguard Captain Kurt Brynildson (Thomas Kretschmann)."

It's going to be interesting because they are going with that "documentary style", which makes sense since they creators are from Paranormal Activity. Plus, it is being created by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, so there would seem to be loads of cash behind this project.

Like any "horror" show you have to question if it will have staying power, but I think at least short term it should be really good. I am a little bias since I actually really like that style of shoot (Paranormal Activity, Cloverfield, ect). I do think it's worn out it's welcome a bit in theaters, but I am interested to see how it's used in this show, and I do truly think this could be a really scary show. I base most of that because I trust the guys from Paranormal Activity.

So, I will be checking this out.
