Keith Law doesn't have Will Middlebrook's in the top 100 MLB prospects, which is shocking with the way most people talk about him. Here is what Law had to say about him...
"Middlebrooks has filled out his 6-foot-4 frame, so his rotational swing now produces home runs instead of just long fly balls. But his approach at the plate is a real weakness that pitchers started to exploit when he was called up to Triple-A and in the Arizona Fall League -- especially with better off-speed stuff."
So maybe we shouldn't be running Youk out the door so quickly. Law goes as far as to say he isn't even the Red Sox top prospect (Xander Bogaerts and Blake Swihart) are ranked above him.
They do say he is a above average defender, but Law really worries that he can recognize off-speed pitches and that he will not be able to hit in the majors. He is just 22, and has time to figure it out, but it certainly sounds like he needs more time in the minors.
