Sens Fall In OT
What a picture! Someone beautifully captured the OT winner from Taylor Hall on a mess of a play by everyone who was out there for the Sens. The Senators didn't play horribly, but didn't have the killer instinct today to finish their chances and let the Oil hang around until they eventually took the lead 3-2 over Ottawa. Karlsson answered back to it at 3's before the Sens gave up the winner just 17 seconds into the extra frame. The effort was ok, the execution was not. On to Florida. We have now lost 8 of 9.
Sens Fall Face First. Again.
The Senators struggled yet again tonight, failing to bring their A game, losing 2-1 in overtime to Long Island, a team they needed to beat. The most troubling thing about the loss was the lack of effort again tonight, which is now our FIFTH loss in a row. The only decent thing if you're looking for something positive is that we were able to secure a point in the defeat.
Chalk up this loss to the Gonchar-Cowen pairing, who were to blame for both of the Islanders 2 goals tonight. I have nothing good to say about tonight. A horrible effort got us the result we deserved. Let's hope they regroup for tomorrow night's big game vs Toronto.
Briere 3, Senators 2
The Senators put up a good fight this afternoon in Philadelphia in what seemed to have the atmosphere and intensity of a playoff game, but ultimately lost 3-2 in OT, thanks to Gatineau native Danny Briere, which completed his hat trick. At least the Sens were able to pick up the point for getting to overtime..
Other thoughts from the game:
- Karlsson picked up another 2 points today
- Speaking of EK, loved seeing him yell at the ref at the end of the game about the non call icing, even though he was wrong, I loved seeing the passion.
- What was Phillips doing on that giveaway for the OT winner? His brainfart moments seem to be increasing.
- There were A LOT of sketchy penalty calls today. Refs seem to be getting worse and worse.
- JMR dove so much I thought he was a soccer player this afternoon.
- I absolutely love Zack Smith's game. Always brings it.
- Foligno has been playing chippy as hell the past 2 months. Love it.
- Good to see Michalek back in the scoring column again.
- Man it was an ugly fight, but cool to see Turris willing to drop em too. Starting to really like him.
With 2 assists, Erik Karlsson wins the afternoon.
