New Scoreboard First Look
While the new scoreboard isn't completely finished, it made its debut last night vs Montreal. It sure makes the sight lines better without the bulky old one there.

SBP Gets Facelift For 20th
The new season gets underway a week today, and with it being the 20th anniversary season, the Senators organization have made little changes in almost every area. They decided to beef up the entrances, so here's a quick rundown of the new looks. First up is gate 2, one of the main entrances. It features the 20th logo and Alfie greeting you as you come into SBP. More after the jump.
This is just to the side of gate 2 and features the players lined up from the very first game back in 1992 at the Civic Centre. It's a cool piece of history to see and awesome to see all of the old school original Sens like Mike Peluso, Jody Hull, Darren Rumble and the rest.
On the less used gate 3, the 2 assistant captains welcome you to SBP. If you come through that door each game you will see Jason Spezza and Chris Phillips with the 20th anniversary logo in each language and an overall nice design.

Changes To SBP Are A Comin'
The Sens get their 20th season underway in just a few weeks now and for the anniversary season, the entire organization is stepping it up. I was sent some of the major changes that will be happening at SBP in time for the home opener against Dany Heatley and the Minnesota Wild on October 11th. I have to say after reading the new plans, I'm quite pleased. Credit where credit is due, the Sens are stepping it up as of late. There will be several new food options and an improved Sens Store. Details after the jump.
Here are some of the new things to expect this season:
- Golden Palace egg rolls — the new official egg roll of Scotiabank Place — will now be available at Club-level concessions, in Club seats and in suites. The Golden Palace was recently voted by CTV Ottawa as home to “Ottawa’s best Chinese food.”
- The Burger Shack, with two locations in the main food courts on the 200 level, offers specialty burgers made fresh with 100 per cent Ontario beef on toasted buns, gourmet “forum-style” hot dogs with a variety of toppings, including corn relish and chili, as well as sea-salt-seasoned french fries.
- The Molson Canadian Brew Pub (formerly the Hockey Country Lodge located upstairs at Section 223) has been renovated and given a fresh look. The Molson Canadian Brew Pub will be the new home of Team 1200’s game-day broadcasts.
- In addition, fans can expect hot dogs served fresh off roller grills at all concession stands around the building, as well as several other new menu items at Scotiabank Place restaurants.
- A revamped Sens Store, powered by Reebok, with almost 1,800 square feet of retail space (three times larger than last season) will be open to fans. This new store will feature products from around the National Hockey League, boasting more than 100 new merchandise items for this season.
- Scotiabank Place has also received a facelift, with new 20th anniversary-inspired signage on the front of the main gates, as well as player collages at both the Gate 2 and Gate 3 fan entrances.

SBP Gets Facelift
This was the scene at the main entrance of SBP yesterday, as they put up a new graphic to greet you. It heavily features Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza and some other historic Sens history on the ends. I know some of you may hate on the inclusion of Redden, but try and remember the moment their portraying and not the individual. To see the final finished version click here.
Yet another sign the new season is getting close.

Goal Song
The Senators are offering the fans a chance to get in on some of the in game action at SBP this upcoming season. They are looking for suggestions for a new goal song to be played when the good guys score. It could be a cool opportunity for your pick to be starting a new tradition with the club. New Scoreboard Leaked
Fans have been asking for a new scoreboard at SBP for years, and it appears that their prayers have been answered, with the new scoreboard having been leaked by Anthony James Partners, a company who design scoreboards for pro and college teams. They have designed scoreboards for other well known pro teams like the Green Bay Packers, the Buffalo Bills and the Charlotte Bobcats. The new scoreboard brings us up to speed with most of the other arenas and appears to be quite similar to the one at the Bell Centre.
Here's a closer view of the supposed new scoreboard, which makes me laugh because they felt a picture of Matt Carkner skating backwards was the best way to show off the new screen, and secondly that this game is clearly on the road and not at Scotiabank Place. Details people, it's all in the details.
As far as the screen goes, I can't really complain. It's without a doubt a significant upgrade to what we currently have, and directly contradicts what we were told last September in regards to a new scoreboard for the 2012 ASG in the Capital.
If you're interested in the more technical aspect, here is a basic blueprint of the different areas of the new scoreboard. Either way, I'm excited that we will have something a lot better to watch replays on and it should add quite a bit to the game experience at SBP.
Many of us have been campaigning to have this and hopefully this will be installed for the new season, or at least for the ASG. It seems the organization is going through a lot of changes in every area at the moment, and most appear to be for the better, including this move.
Thoughts on the new scoreboard?
UPDATE @ 1pm Friday July 29th:
Interesting to note that someone from the Sens orgnaization clearly made a call to Anthony James this morning due to this post, as the scoreboard post for the Senators is no longer on their website and has been removed. It now only says coming soon with our logo. Busted! Seems like conclusive proof to me that they didn't want us to know about it and that it is indeed coming. Here's a screengrab of what it looks like now.
