Mission Comics and Art is pleased to announce “VS: A Show of Opposites”, curated by Daisy Church. The show will feature new art and illustrations from over 18 different San Francisco and Los Angeles area artists. The theme of the show is "versus," and features artwork exploring the ideas of contrasts and opposites.

The opening reception will be held at Mission Comics and Art on Saturday, February 4th from 7-10 pm. Hor d'oeuvres and complimentary drinks will be served (wine will be available to our 21+ guests). The exhibition will be on display through March 3, 2012 and is free and open to the public.

Mission Comics is a fantastic retail and gallery space run by SF local Leef Smith, who combined a comic book shop with an art gallery in a fresh, exciting way while drawing on the unique strengths of the Mission District. The gallery and retail space also helps facilitate a greater cross-pollution between the worlds of fine art and commercially produced sequential art. Hours of operation are Tuesday thru Sunday, 12pm-8pm, or anytime online at www.missioncomicsandart.com.

Rabbits and The Odyssey

Hi everyone. I first want to give a big thanks to Chogrin and Mansur for bringing me onto The Autumn Society.

I got to say these TMNT illustrations are amazing! I was thinking to myself how much I'd like to contribute, but unfortunately haven't had any free time this week. But then I remembered.....
Photobucket
Now granted, I know it's not Ninja Turtles, but Usagi did appear on the show a few times. I originally drew this for the site RePaneled. More info can be found here

I also wanted to plug a show I'm in that's opening tomorrow out in San Francisco. If any of you are around make sure to check out SpokeArt's opening of Quentin Vs Coen II. After seeing pictures of the first show, it's safe to say, this is going to be a blast.

Here's my illustration, "The Soggy Bottom Boys"

Thanks and enjoy the rest of the week.

Haunted San Francisco, California.... Alcatraz

Haunted San Francisco has many a said haunted location from buildings to cemeteries and the most famous hot spot of mystery Alcatraz Prison. The now closed prison ghost are not so quiet, sounds of ghostly footsteps and the real sounds of cell doors opening and closing also echo throughout the empty haunted corridors. Visitors, Tour guides, and paranormal investigators and workers have all reported feeling many localized "cold haunted ghost spots" in certain common areas, and the feeling that they are not alone. EVP’S, ghost photos and ghostly encounters abound.

The prison on Alcatraz Island, a lonely outcropping in the middle of San Francisco Bay, was opened in 1933 as a maximum-security facility for America's most dangerous criminals. Among its most celebrated internees were Chicago crime boss Al Capone and Robert "Birdman" Stroud. Life on Alcatraz was hard: Inmates were lucky to spend one hour a day outside their cells, and those so favored usually spent the time breaking rocks. Violating prison rules could mean months of solitary confinement, sometimes in the Hole, a tiny cell with no light. The prison was shut down in 1963, and Alcatraz Island became a national park site. But the building still stands, and some of the poor souls that served time and died there seem to be locked forever behind its dank walls.

Several visitors have reported hearing moans, agonized cries and chains rattling in cell blocks A, B, and particularly C. A psychic who visited the site claimed to identify the unruly spirit of a man named Butcher inhabiting the place. Prison records confirm that Abie Maldowitz, a mob hit man nicknamed Butcher, was killed by a fellow inmate in the laundry area of cell block C. The D cell block is supposedly haunted as well, with visitors reporting cold spots and the sound of phantom banjo music coming from rooms that once housed Al Capone.

Many a haunted building and locations you to visit. From San Francisco Arts Institute often said to be built on a cemetery in the early 1900's after The great earthquake, it is haunted by more than a few hundred said restless spirits.
