Sorry for the doom and gloom post before, it's hard not to be right now, but I just read an article and it gave me a crazy idea...
"From Wojnarowski: "As part of agreement, Martin must honor China Basketball Association rules, wait until end of team's season for return to NBA, sources said. Xinjiang plays regular season through mid-Feb., and likely will make playoffs. Martin can't get letter of clearance for NBA until it's over. Martin's buyout will set the precedent for J.R. Smith, Wilson Chandler, Aaron Brooks in China: None will play in NBA until CBA season is over."
So while none of these players will be heading back to the NBA soon, it's possible they could hook on with an NBA team before final NBA playoff rosters are set in the spring (ESPN)."
The playoffs are not till April. I have spent the last 15 mins trying to find out when NBA playoff rosters are locked (aka the last day you can add guys). Anyways, here me out.
The Celtics make through the regular season and into some time around March. All these guys become free agents. The Celtics add them at vet minimum with not just the promise at a run at a title, but serious playing time. How good would the scoring option of JR Smith look during the playoffs? Kenyon Martin going into the PF/C mix with KG/Bass/Jermaine? Or Wilson Chandler taking the Green swingman spot for Paul Pierce off the bench? I know it's crazy, and there is probably 0% chance of it happening, but I could see the sale pitch now.
Make 1 last run with 3 Hall of Famers. Get a chance to be in the playoffs, which could pay off huge in the offseason for them when they want to get PAID. Get to play for Doc Rivers. Get to make a huge impression with a franchise/fan base that will have crazy money next offseason. Seems like a damn good idea to me.
