A Must See Goal

In case you missed Spezza's amazing goal from tonight's game against Pittsburgh, here it is. I'm still not quite sure how he managed to pull it off given the angle. Definitely a special goal, however he did it.

Sens Beat Up Pens

The Sens lead from start to finish, beating up the Penguins 5-1 for their first ever victory in the Consol Energy Center. The game was a total domination, as the Sens chased Brent Johnson from the net for the 2nd straight game. Jason Spezza scored a ridiculously awesome goal, while Michalek chipped in with 2. Bobby Butler and Chris Neil added the others, while Anderson was solid in what little work he had tonight. The only blemish was the late scratch of Erik Karlsson. Let's hope the injury isn't too bad.

Other thoughts from the game:

• Greening was a beast, racking up 3 assists
• With the 2 goals, Michalek is now tied for 4th in the NHL with Toews.
• Turris had another good game.
• Foligno had a great rush tonight.
• Penguins looked awful.
• Loved Gonchar being boo'd. A little late Pens fans.
• Phillips struggled a bit again for me.
• Kuba played pretty well yet again. Credit where credit is due.
• The Sens remain the only NHL team not involved in a shutout game this season.
• 2 game win streak.

With 2 goals tonight, Milan Michalek wins the night.

Sens Beat Pens

The Sens got back in the win column tonight, winning a wild one against Pittsburgh 6-4 with several Sens having very big nights. Rookie stay at home defenceman Jared Cowen had a goal and 3 helpers, while Jason Spezza 2 of each to vault him into 3rd overall in the NHL scoring race. Erik Karlsson also had a big night with 3 assists and #11 had a goal and 2 helpers as well. Alex Auld was his usual subpar self but all's well that ends well and the Sens got the important 2 points.

Crosby Out Again With Concussion Symptoms

"Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby is out indefinitely with concussion-like symptoms. Crosby said Monday he noticed a recurrence of the problems that sidelined him for more than 10 months earlier this year following a 3-1 loss to Boston last week.

"Not (feeling) bad. I'm not happy about watching," Crosby said Monday after missing practice. "But I have to make sure with these sort of things that I'm careful and making sure I'm 100 percent before coming back. No timetable (ESPN)."

Even though is this good news for the Bruins it sucks. You hate to see one of the best players in the world not be able to play. The NHL really needs to find a way to control this concussion problems. Whether it is continuing to change the rules, or making better helmets. It is just costing too many great players their careers.

Bruins 3, Penguins 1

This game had playoff intensity with regular season officiating. Nevertheless, the Bruins made a statement last night that they are clearly the best team in the Eastern Conference.

To borrow something from Belichick and the Patriots, the Bruins scored because they took what the Penguins gave them. Campbell's goal was very dirty, Pouliot's came from a turnover, and Seguin's resulted from taking advantage of Pittsburgh's aggressive penalty killing.

Speaking of penalty killing, the Bruins entered this game with the 6th best PK unit (statistically) in the League. And mathematically speaking, they killed 5 of 5 penalties last night. But they spent over 3 minutes killing 5-on-3 penalties. That's something that the stats don't quite show. I'll take the Bruins' PK over any other in the NHL.

The Bruins scored because they took what Pittsburgh gave them. And Pittsburgh scored only once because the Bruins didn't give them much of anything. Tim Thomas made a season high 44 saves. Chara was Chara. Seidenberg was brilliant. Ference was good. Everyone did their job defensively. Krejci hit two posts.

This was a tight, tough game, determined by the slimmest of margins, and the Bruins were clearly better.

Bruins @ Penguins Preview

The 14-game streak without a regulation loss is the Bruins' longest since recording at least one point in 17 straight games in 1983. Tonight, they will try to make it 15 games against the #1 team in the East. The Penguins just got Crosby back not too long ago, and he looks like he hasn't missed a step after being out almost a year. He is averaging over a point a game, and when you add that to Malkin, who has 10 points in his last seven games, you know you're in for a lot of offense.

Pittsburgh is 7-0-1 in its last eight home games, but if the Bruins can find a way to win this game they would be just 1 point behind the Penguins for first place in the East. The Penguins are going to score tonight, even with Thomas in net, so the Bruins are going to need to keep up the offensive pressure they have been putting on teams over the last month or so. Bruins have won its last three by a combined 14-6, so we all know they can do it.

Yet, the Bruins still have not lost when picking against them, so who am I to argue.

Sens Rooks Dominate Opener

The pre pre-season got underway yesterday with a rookie game, with the Sens taking on the Pens in Oshawa. The Sens prospects dominated pretty much start to finish, taking it 4-0. Robin Lehner got the shutout, Corey Cowick added two goals, while Rundblad and Cowen were standouts on defence.
