Tim Wakefield Retires

Tim Wakefield finally has retired. After 19 season he leaves with a record of 186-168 (6 wins shy of the franchise record). He played all kinds of roles for the Red Sox, from starter to reliever, even a closer at one point. Wakefield for everything the Red Sox needed him to me. IS he a great player? No, but he like the cement that holds the bricks together. You need a guy like Wake that can come in and do whatever the team needs. The ultimate role player.

Yet, it was time for Wake to hang them up. There was no role for him anymore, and his knuckleball didn't seem to fool hitters like it used to. Plus, it was time for the Red Sox to move on. Hopefully, Tek will follow in his footsteps.

Randy Moss Coming Back

Former Patriots receiver Randy Moss announced via a video on Ustream that he plans to return to football after skipping the 2011 season.

"I just want to go to a team and play some football," Moss said on Monday, his 35th birthday, adding: "I said I had a surprise for y'all."

Randy Moss has had an amazing career, but I think he is washed up. He didn't do a damn thing after he left the Patriots and I'll actually be surprised if someone signs him. He is a headache, and it's only a matter of time before he explodes, or flat out gives up. Moss is a first ballot Hall of Famer, but he should just hang them up, because I don't see anything coming from this.

Peyton Manning's Arm "A Noodle"

"On Wednesday evening, Ryan Wilson passed along a report that Peyton Manning's arm "is a noodle." That description was not complimentary. And neither is the the description of Manning from NFL Network's Michael Lombardi. Lombardi, appearing with Bill Simmons on "The BS Report," said that Manning "can't throw the ball to his left (CBS Sports)."

Guys who have caught the ball for him says he has no velocity on the ball, and the reason he can throw to his left is because he loses feeling when trying to throw across his body. That is really not good news. Manning still has a month to get his arm right before the Colts have to decide to cut him, but it's looking more and more likely they are going to.

For now structurally Manning is fine, but the nerves aren't and if he can't get his arm back then he is going to be done. I have no idea how long that might take, but I have to admit I am rooting for him to make it back. He is one of the greatest and I would love to see him back in the NFL again, and not be forced into retirement.

Orlando Cabrera Retires

Orlando Cabrera has retired. I really liked him when he was with the Red Sox, but he has always been a very confusing player. I say that because he never seems to be able to stick with a team. There were rumors that he is kind of a dick, not to other players, but guys who worked for the team. Some say that's the reason he didn't comeback to Boston.

Whatever the reason, people in Boston will always remember him coming over in the Nomar trade and being part of the team that finally broke the curse. Even if he is a dick I always like, because of that. Plus, at least he never played for the Yankees.

Rob Lowe Says Peyton Manning Is Retiring

Yup... Rob fucking Lowe.

I guess Rob Lowe is close with Colts owner Jim Irsay, but I'm called bullshit on this. Archie Manning is denying this, and you would think he would know if his son was hanging it up.

I have a question, why does no one ever bring up the fact that Rob Lowe made a sex tape with 2 girls and one of them was 16 years old?

Maybe There Is A God: George Lucas Says He's Retiring

We've heard this before from George Lucas, but he tells The New York Times that Red Tails was his last big project at Lucasfilm. "I'm retiring," he said. "I'm moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff." The newspaper adds that the 67-year-old Lucas was careful to leave himself an out clause for a fifth "Indiana Jones" film, however. "Once this is finished, he’s done everything he’s ever wanted to do," producer Rick McCallum added. "He will have completed his task as a man and a filmmaker (Comingsoon.net)."

Thank Christ! If you read this site then you know my hatred for basically anyone associated with Indian Jones and the Cystal Skull. I thought the South Park episode where Lucas and Speilberg were raping Indy was the most accurate assesment I had seen involoving that film.

Lucas made Star Wars. I am not a HUGE Star Wars guy, but I fucking repect it. Then he had to go make 3 more movies, that were just the worst. I'm just glad he is finally going away before he found a way to rape that franchise or another other anymore then he already has. There is no a Star Wars cartoon, and rumors of a live action show, so maybe I have spoken too soon.

I think this guy and his stupid face. You created some of the greatest franchises in histroy, then decided to just milk it for everything it's worth while not even going a good job and taking a giant dump on your career. Go to the Mr. Lucas.

Maybe JJ Abrams can take over everything, because he is really is one of the only great ones left.

Rasheed Wallace Making A Comeback?

"One-time Celtic Rasheed Wallace is considering coning out of retirement to play this season, Yahoo! Sports reported. While the four-time All-Star may still generate interest, no teams have contacted him or his agent, per the report (WEEI)."

A year ago I would've been all about this, but it's been awhile now since Wallace has played, and it wasn't like he left in the best shape ever. I guess it can never hurt to have another big man, but I doubt very much that this guy has a lot left in the tank, and with the Celtics have to play to many back-to-back games I just don't see him making much of a difference.

Manny Ramirez To MLB: 'I'm Going To Be A Role Model'

Ramirez, whose penalty was adjusted to 50 games that must be served after the start of the coming season, said in the ESPN interview that he wants to return to the game "to show people that Manny can change, that he can do the right thing. And to show people that I still can play. I don’t want to leave the game like I did. I also want to show my kids that if you make a mistake, don’t quit. Just go back and fix it. And if you’re going to leave, leave the right way."

"First, because I can still play. Second, because I’m going to be a role model," said Ramirez. "A bunch of guys are going to look at me and say hey, this guy made a mistake but he didn’t quit. Look how he finished. He did the right thing and came back (WEEI)."

I wish I could sit here and say that this will turn out of be a story of redemption, but it won't. No team is going to touch this guy after all the shit he has pulled. He burned bridges with the Red Sox, then did it to the Dodgers, turned around and was terrible for the White Sox, and then flat out gave up on the Rays. Plus, he can't even play the first 50 games of the season, he is 39 years old, and he is washed up.

Manny was one of my favorite players growing up. I have never seen anyone is Boston hit the way he did. When he was on, it was something to see, but he blew it. The failed drug tests, the giving up, the trade demands, the throwing down old people, he just is everything an athlete shouldn't be. I try to remember the good times, but it hard for me to do that anymore and I think MLB teams will be thinking the same way.

Hines Ward To Retire? (UPDATED - GUESS NOT)

"Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward's afternoon in Week 17 included hauling in his 1,000th career reception, and it appears he may elect to sit on that number as a good total for his career. According to what a Steelers teammate told Mike Freeman of CBS Sports, the feeling in the locker room is that Ward will soon announce his retirement (ESPN)."

It makes sense he lost his starting job and really wasn't much of a factor as the season went on. Ward has had a great career, but when you are forced this far down the depth chart and n his past 10 games he's been held to one or no catches six times you know it's time to call it quits. I fucking hate the Steelers, but Hines Ward played WR the right way. He made clutch catches, but bigger then that he blocked down field. I really do believe he is a large part of why the Steelers were such a great running team for so many years. If I was a Steelers fan I would pray he comes back as a WR coach.

“I'm also getting lots of questions about retirement so let me set the record straight: I have no plans on retiring right now. I want to win another Superbowl (sic). I don't know where the media is getting this info from but rest assured that when I decide to retire, you'll hear it from ME first.”

Ward has 2 years $4 million left on his deal, so it's really not that much of a cap hit. I can't see the Steelers cutting this guy, and him being in another jersey would just be wrong. I guess the Steelers get one more year of Ward.

Brandon Roy About To Retire

From Chris Broussard of ESPN The Magazine: "Sources say Brandon Roy to announce medical retirement due to degenerative knees, possibly as soon as today."

This is really too bad. I always really like Roy, but his knees are just shot. Still, I am surprised he is walking away from his four years and $68.69 million contract. The good news for the Blazers here is that Roy wasn't worth anywhere near what he contract was worth, and 1 year after he announces his retirement his deal comes off the books, so the Blazers should have some money to play with next year.

The Blazer remind me of the Rockets from a couple years back. Roy being Tracy McGrady, and Oden being Yao Ming.

Oh Manny Just Go Away

Former Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez has filed papers to initiate his return to Major League Baseball and will have his 100-game suspension cut to 50 games, according to multiple reports.

What a bunch of bullshit that is. Manny quit on the Rays, ran out of the country, beat a woman, and now for his efforts gets his suspension cut in half. I guess in the end it's really not going to matter. No team is going to take a shot on this guy. He hasn't been good in awhile, and has consistently shown that he will give up on your team in a heartbeat. Maybe he can play over in Japan or something, just I don't see him getting another at bat in the MLB.
