Hope you're all well. If you haven't heard it through the grape-vine yet, a group of Autumn Society members, PCS members, and yours truly have organized, extensively brain-stormed, applied, and finally received a gallery space from the Arts on South program.
It's with great pleasure that I announce the opening of PHANTOM HAND at 604 South Street. We're kicking off a 4 exhibition run hosting the Philadelphia Cartoonist Society's Out to Dry 3, a show including sketchbook pages, limited edition prints, and framed work. The opening reception is December 23rd, 6:00 PM. This show is cash and carry, so if you need some extremely last minute christmas gifts, why not give art? Stop by and check out the new space, art from some familiar faces, and have a beer on me.
PHANTOM HAND presents: The Philadelphia Cartoonist Society's Out to Dry 3
Here is my contribution to the Fill Up Your Hearts blog. My parents gave my older brother a Nintendo for Christmas of '86 (i think) and from then on we were hooked. We only had a few games starting out and this was one of them and it's still one of my favorite games.
MTV was present at the Autumn Society's "The Iconoclastic Dead Show" (@Guru Gallery / Mexico D.F.) where they interviewed Chogrin & German Orozco about possibly producing an art gallery themed to "Safe-Sex" & "Aids Awareness." Chogrin & German excitedly agreed to the project and now their interview will be featured as part of the upcoming "Agentes de Cambio" documentary premiering this December 1st, 10am EST.
To promote the Autumn Society's involvement, illustrations by Chogrin, Kali Meadows, Jorsh Pena and German Orozco will be featured during the premiere of Agentes de Cambio. Take a look HERE.
This friday marks the closing of Dead and Dreaming at Paradigm Gallery. If you missed the opening reception, mosey on down to the closing reception Friday night starting at 6:00 PM, 2020 South Street. I can easily say with pride this is one of the tightest shows I've ever seen and you really don't want to miss it... but if you do, the catalog was collected in a sexy book (see below) along with artist preliminary work.
It is with great pleasure and honor to announce the beginning of the Autumn Society Mexico. For starters, The Autumn Society's "THE ICONOCLASTIC DEAD" show was a big success in Mexico City! So much so, that we have signed on for several more shows to take place in Mexico City between 2012 & 2013!
At this point I'd like to thank several people for making this dream a reality. German Orozco for his leadership, friendship, the marimba, and for taking this show above and beyond! Jorsh Pena, for providing some stellar special guests and artists. Jorge Gutierrez, Rhode Montijo, and Alberto Cerriteno for sharing their wonderful art and accompanying us on the show. Guru Galeria y tienda for all the love and goods that they provided for the show (papel picado, t-shirts, postcards, ads, tequila, and all the rest!). Another big thank-you to Rosario Ruiz, Manuel Lugh, Romero Chagoyan, Bere & Bere, POGO, and all of the Hula Hula gang! Gracias a todos who came out that night!
The show will take place at Guru Gallery in Mexico City, our first show in Mexico! We're all very excited here and the positive energy is fierce! THE ICONOCLASTIC DEAD The Iconoclastic Dead is the Autumn Society's first show in Mexico, the first of many we are sure. The idea came about due to our love for Mexican traditions, specially for the "Dia de los Muertos" tradition.
In this show, Autumn Society members & special guests pay tribute to those Iconoclasts that made mark, would like brought back to life, or remember that they will die and try to immortalize them in this fashion.
What started in 2005 as an idea for a zine, became a collective of Illustrators, known as the Autumn Society in 2006.
The Autumn Society was born in Philadelphia (Pennsyvalnia), named by Sam Heimer & co-founded by Joseph Game (Chogrin).
Over the years the group has grown and spread its wings around theworld. Artists from Mexico, England, New Zealand, Ecuador, France, and Brazil have joined the Autumn Society’s cause inpresenting unique visual feasts throughout the internet, art galleries,events, and in various publications. The Autumn Society has become known and will rise toany creative need or challenge.
The Autumn Society has worked with world known galleries,groups, and companies like: Brave New Worlds Comics, Gallery 1988,Ground Kontrol, Meltdown Comics, The Mars Society, Toys for Tots, Cartoon Network, Image Comics, Dreamworks, & King FeaturesSyndicate.
The Autumn Society Mexico is part of the initiative ofexpanding the Autumn Society name and group worldwide. There's hundredsof talented people everywhere, and one of our main goals is to assemblethese people all together into art galleries, books, and differentevents. The Iconoclastic Dead will take place at Galeria Guru (www.gurugalleryshop.com) in Mexico City. The show premieres Saturday October 1st (6pm-12am) and runs to the end of the month (October 31st).
It will feature over 40 pieces of artwork by members of the Autumn Society and other special guests!
Live music and drinks will be present at the show as well! It is the Autumn Society's #1 event of the year, so you don't want to miss it!
From Super Mario Bros to Pac-man, 8-BIT CHAMPIONS offers a wide variety of all your old school arcade / home console systems with the elegance and variety of art that the Autumn Society has to offer and is known for.
